RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and India are preparing to deepen their long-standing partnership as Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya met with Indian Ambassador Shri Sandeep Chakravorty in Jakarta to discuss bilateral cooperation and the upcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting, held at the Cabinet Secretariat office on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, focused on advancing collaboration and reinforcing diplomatic ties. “Ambassador Sandeep specifically requested time to convey several points regarding the progress of Indonesia-India cooperation,” Teddy said, as quoted by Antara.
The ambassador also highlighted India’s significant diaspora presence in Indonesia, estimated at more than 150,000 people, as a bridge for stronger cultural and economic relations.
Ambassador Sandeep further conveyed plans for Prime Minister Modi’s official visit to Indonesia in mid-2026. The visit is expected to mark a milestone in the 76-year partnership between the two nations and open new opportunities for cooperation across multiple sectors.
The trip will also serve as a reciprocal gesture following President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to India in January 2025, where he attended India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi as a guest of honor. That visit underscored Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening ties with India, particularly in trade, investment, and strategic collaboration.
PM Modi’s upcoming visit is anticipated to reinforce momentum in bilateral relations, building on shared values and mutual interests. Both governments view the engagement as a chance to expand cooperation in areas ranging from economic growth to regional stability.
This development connects to broader themes such as Indonesia-India diplomatic relations, PM Narendra Modi’s foreign visits, and President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to India. ***
