RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of its migrant workers following an incident in Taichung, Taiwan, on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI) Mukhtarudin stated that the ministry, together with the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (KDEI) in Taipei, is coordinating intensively with local authorities to ensure the case is handled in accordance with the law.

“The government will continue to oversee the process to guarantee that every Indonesian citizen receives consular access, assistance, and protection as their right,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

According to information from KDEI Taipei and Taiwanese authorities, the incident occurred near Taichung Station and involved several Indonesian nationals. Investigations are ongoing to identify all parties involved and establish a full chronology of events.

Taiwanese authorities have detained seven Indonesian migrant workers, identified by their initials G, S, N, SF, NAN, R, and A. Preliminary findings show that six were undocumented workers, while one had overstayed their visa. All remain under investigation.

The P2MI Ministry is working closely with KDEI Taipei to obtain updates on their legal and immigration status, while also verifying their identities and placement records.

Mukhtarudin reminded Indonesian workers of the importance of complying with regulations in host countries. “This case is a reminder for all Indonesian migrant workers to always follow legal procedures, maintain valid immigration and employment status, and respect the laws of their host country,” he stressed.

He added that adherence to legal requirements is essential for personal safety and legal certainty while working abroad. “The Indonesian government respects the ongoing legal process in Taiwan and will continue to coordinate with local authorities to ensure fair and transparent proceedings,” Mukhtarudin said.

The ministry has urged all Indonesian migrant workers to comply with host country laws, maintain legal immigration and employment status, and avoid actions that could lead to legal consequences. The ministry will continue monitoring developments in the case and provide updates as new information emerges. ***
