RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia welcomed reports of a ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step toward peaceful conflict resolution and efforts to strengthen peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.
“Indonesia welcomes the agreement reached between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This is a positive development toward resolving conflicts peacefully and advancing peace, security, and stability in the region,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said in a written statement on Monday, June 15, 2026.
Yvonne added that Indonesia views the agreement as an important momentum to ease longstanding tensions between the two countries. She expressed hope that the development would pave the way for more constructive and sustainable dialogue.
Indonesia also extended appreciation to all parties involved in the negotiations, particularly the mediators who played a crucial role in facilitating dialogue and bridging differences.
Yvonne further urged all sides to exercise restraint, honor the commitments made, and continue prioritizing dialogue to maintain the momentum of de-escalation.
“Indonesia looks forward to the implementation of this agreement and reaffirms its readiness to support efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability in the region, in line with international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” she emphasized.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire agreement with Iran in a post on the White House’s social media account on Monday, June 15, 2026, noting that it would be accompanied by the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also stated that the agreement allows for the removal of the U.S. Navy blockade. The ceasefire was confirmed by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The announcement followed a statement by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif on X, who said the agreement aimed to end fighting across all fronts, including in Lebanon.
Sharif noted that a formal signing ceremony would take place in Switzerland on Friday, June 19, 2026, and expressed appreciation to Qatar for its support in mediation efforts. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
