RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Johor Bahru has provided protection and assistance to two Indonesian nationals, identified by their initials YY and SH, who were allegedly victims of abuse by their employer in Johor, Malaysia. The two Indonesians have been picked up by the consulate and are currently staying at the Temporary Shelter (TTS) of the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru to receive further protection and assistance.

According to a statement from Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs received in Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026, the case came to light after the KSATRIA service of the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru received a report on June 13, 2026, from YY regarding alleged physical abuse committed by the employer against herself and two other Indonesian nationals, identified as YA and SH, who worked as domestic helpers in Johor.

Based on the information received, the three Indonesians had repeatedly suffered abuse while working. One incident of assault was reported to have occurred between late 2025 and January 2026. Following the incident, the employer abandoned them in the Kampung Melayu Majidee area of Johor.

As they still wished to continue working in Malaysia, the three later separated. YA moved to Kuala Lumpur, while YY and SH remained in Johor.

The three Indonesians were found to be working in Malaysia through non-procedural channels and did not possess valid work permits. Their passports were also being held by the employer, making them reluctant to report the abuse they had experienced.

However, fearing for her safety, YY eventually decided to report the case to the KSATRIA service of the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru.

In response to the report, the consulate immediately coordinated with local police and filed an official complaint. According to the information received, the Johor Bahru Utara District Police Headquarters (IPD Johor Bahru Utara) detained four individuals suspected of being involved in the case on June 13, 2026.

In addition to providing protection to YY and SH, the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru, in coordination with the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur, is working to bring YA, who is currently in Kuala Lumpur, under similar protection and assistance. The consulate will also facilitate the filing of police reports and provide access to legal counsel to ensure that the victims' rights are protected throughout the legal process.

The handling of the case is being coordinated intensively by the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to ensure that protection, legal assistance, and victim support are carried out in an integrated and optimal manner.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru urged Indonesians to seek employment abroad to use legal and procedural placement channels in accordance with applicable regulations in order to obtain better legal and labor protection.
