RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United States (US) and Iran have reached an agreement to end the conflict that has lasted for several months, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who served as the chief mediator in the negotiations, said both sides had agreed to immediately and permanently halt all military operations on various fronts, including in Lebanon.
"Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon," Sharif said in a post on X on Monday, June 15, 2026, local time.
Sharif said the official signing ceremony of the agreement would take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday, June 19, 2026.
"The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland," he said.
US President Donald Trump also confirmed that an agreement had been reached through a post on Truth Social. Trump said he had authorized the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
"Congratulations to all. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!" Trump wrote.
Trump said the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important shipping lanes and a route that had experienced disruptions for several months, would be reopened free of charge.
Meanwhile, Iranian Vice Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, told Iranian state television that the agreement with the US had been finalized.
"The immediate and permanent end to the war and military operations on various fronts, including Lebanon, will be announced tonight," he said.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran is expected to initiate a 60-day negotiation period aimed at bringing the war to a complete end. According to Gharibabadi, nuclear issues will be among the topics to be discussed during the negotiations.
The talks will also cover efforts to lift sanctions on Iran, rebuild the country, and establish a mechanism to monitor all parties' commitments under the agreement.
Several key points in the draft peace agreement reportedly include the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets, the easing of sanctions on Iran's oil sector, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The two countries are said to have reached a verbal agreement to end the war that has been raging for the past several months.
