RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s engineering education accreditation system has taken a significant step onto the global stage, as the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE), under the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), secured recognition as a Provisional Signatory of the Sydney Accord and the Dublin Accord.
The recognition was granted during the International Engineering Alliance Meetings (IEAM) 2026 in South Africa, recently. PII Secretary General Teguh Haryono confirmed the achievement, noting that it reflects international confidence in Indonesia’s accreditation framework for higher education in engineering and technology.
“This milestone expands global recognition of Indonesia’s engineering education accreditation system. It is the result of collective efforts to build a credible, transparent, and internationally aligned quality assurance framework,” he said in Jakarta on Sunday, June 14, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The Sydney Accord acknowledges substantial equivalence in engineering technology programs, while the Dublin Accord focuses on education for engineering technicians. Together, these accords form part of a broader international framework that ensures cross-border comparability of engineering education standards.
“The provisional signatory status demonstrates that Indonesia’s accreditation system has earned trust from the international community,” Teguh emphasized, adding added that the recognition highlights the country’s progress in governance and alignment with global best practices.
Beyond institutional prestige, the achievement carries strategic benefits for universities, students, graduates, and industry. Teguh underscored that wider international recognition of IABEE-accredited programs will foster academic collaboration, enhance professional mobility, and strengthen the global competitiveness of Indonesian graduates. ***
