RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian home decor products were once again showcased at the international Business-to-Business Interior Lifestyle Tokyo (ILT) 2026 exhibition. The exhibition was held at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan, from 10-12 June 2026, highlighting sustainability and the use of natural materials.
Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan, Maria Renata Hutagalung, said Indonesia is well-positioned to meet Japanese demand for sustainable, high-quality interior and lifestyle products with strong social value.
“Indonesia is currently in a strong position to meet the Japanese market’s demand for sustainable, high-quality interior and lifestyle products that carry compelling stories and social value. In addition to showcasing products rooted in tradition, these products also utilize natural materials that support the concept of a circular economy in the production process,” Maria said while inaugurating the Indonesian Pavilion at ILT 2026.
In a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo on Friday, 12 June 2026, Nine Indonesian businesses participating in the “Rumah Indonesia” gallery-style pavilion were selected through a screening process conducted by the Ministry of Trade in cooperation with the Indonesia Design and Development Center (IDDC). The selection process considered aspects such as sustainable lifestyle product design, traceability, quality, hospitality-related design elements, and product storytelling.
The products on display feature natural materials including teak wood, rattan, bamboo, banana stems, water hyacinth, and other eco-friendly resources, creatively transformed into home decor items tailored to Japanese consumer preferences and trends.
Tokyo Trade Attaché, Merry Astrid Indriasari, said the participating businesses had undergone extensive preparations before joining the exhibition, including product presentation sessions and market exploration through business matching with Japanese companies.
“Prior to participating in ILT 2026, the businesses conducted product pitching sessions to assess product readiness. They also participated in business matching activities with Japanese companies as an initial market engagement,” Merry said, accompanied by Head of ITPC Osaka, Didit Akhdiat Suryo.
Beyond serving as a promotional platform, the exhibition also provides opportunities for design collaboration between Indonesia and Japan, in line with growing design trends that combine natural elements, craftsmanship, sustainability, and traditional materials with contemporary approaches.
According to the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Indonesia’s exports of furniture and home decor products to Japan amount to approximately US$135 million annually.
With increasing Japanese demand for eco-friendly products and natural materials, Indonesia is considered to have significant potential to expand its market share, particularly through wooden furniture, rattan products, and sustainable home decor items.
