German President Plans to Meet Prabowo and Visit Jakarta's Religious Sites

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to make a one-day working visit to Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026. The German Ambassador to Indonesia, Ralf Beste, delivered the statement at a press conference at the German Embassy in Jakarta on Friday, June 12, 2026.

He said that the primary purpose of his visit is to meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, while also strengthening bilateral relations of both countries as strategic partners amid global geopolitical shifts. The Ambassador noted that this is Steinmeier’s second visit as President, following two previous visits during his tenure as Foreign Minister.

“It's not his first to Indonesia. It's his second as President. He was here in his former capacities as Foreign Minister already two times, so he knows the country a bit. But it's his first visit as President to meet President Prabowo,” Beste said.

Moreover, he said that while in Jakarta, the German President has several items on his itinerary. The iconic sites he will visit including the Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church.

He said, “The President will be visiting the Istiqlal Mosque and then go through the Tunnel of Friendship to visit the Catholic Cathedral of Jakarta.”

In addition to visiting religious sites, Steinmeier will also meet with a number of key figures. These meetings will involve researchers and public intellectuals from Indonesia.

“He will also have conversations with researchers and public intellectuals from Indonesia to discuss the way that Indonesia sees this changing world in a geostrategic way,” he stated.
