RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Russian House in Indonesia stated that interest among Indonesians in learning the Russian language continues to grow, as reflected in the increasing number of participants enrolled in Russian language courses in 2026. The statement was made during the celebration of Russian Language Day 2026, held by Russian House in Indonesia on June 6 and attended by students, educators, alumni, as well as enthusiasts of Russian language and culture.

Director of Russian House in Indonesia, Nikita Shilikov, said that enthusiasm among Indonesians for learning Russian continues to show a positive trend, with participants coming from diverse backgrounds.

“It is very encouraging to see more and more new faces in our Russian language programs. There are prospective students who plan to continue their studies in Russia, professionals seeking to expand their international opportunities, and those who learn Russian out of their love for Russian culture,” Shilikov said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday, June 8, 2026.

According to him, this diversity of backgrounds demonstrates that interest in the Russian language in Indonesia continues to grow. Russian House reported that more than 110 participants joined the first batch of Russian language courses in 2026.

The Russian Language Day celebration began with the presentation of certificates to participants who had completed Russian language courses, followed by various Russian cultural and artistic performances.

On the occasion, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, expressed appreciation to participants who had completed their Russian language studies. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to continue supporting the development of Russian language education in Indonesia.

Russian Language Day is observed annually on the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, widely recognized as the founder of modern Russian literature. Russian is currently spoken by more than 250 million people worldwide and is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

Russian House noted that the celebration of Russian Language Day serves as part of broader efforts to strengthen cultural exchanges and foster closer ties between the peoples of Indonesia and Russia through educational programs, academic cooperation, and intercultural dialogue.
