Indonesia, India Deepen Cooperation at 8th Joint Commission

RRI.CO.ID, New Delhi – Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Sugiono, and Indian External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation during the 8th Indonesia–India Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) held in New Delhi, India, on Saturday, June 7, 2026.

During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed various cooperation priorities under the Indonesia–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, ranging from trade, maritime security, digital connectivity, and infrastructure development to health and people-to-people relations.

“I was delighted to co-chair the 8th Indonesia–India Joint Commission Meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi,” Sugiono said in a post on social media platform X on Sunday, June 8, 2026.

Sugiono further said both countries are committed to strengthening cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to the people of Indonesia and India. He also expressed his anticipation for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Jakarta.

According to him, the visit will serve as an important opportunity to further deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

“The visit will be an important opportunity to further deepen our cooperation and deliver tangible benefits for our peoples,” Sugiono said.

Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, said that the India–Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has experienced strong growth in recent years.

During the meeting, Jaishankar said both sides held substantive discussions on political affairs, defense and security, maritime and shipping cooperation, trade, financial technology (fintech), health, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, critical minerals, tourism, education, and cultural cooperation.

“Held substantive discussions on our political, defence & security, maritime & shipping, trade, fintech, health, pharmaceuticals, fertiliser, critical mineral as well as tourism, education and cultural cooperation,” Jaishankar said.

The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments, enhancing coordination in multilateral forums, and strengthening ties between India and ASEAN.

Indonesia and India are comprehensive strategic partners that continue to expand cooperation across various sectors, including the economy, security, and connectivity in the Indo-Pacific region.
