RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, received a visit from Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, June 1, 2026. According to Indonesia's Presidential Secretariat, the visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar.

"Sheikh Saoud was welcomed directly by President Prabowo in a warm and friendly atmosphere," the secretariat said on Monday.

During the meeting, Sheikh Saoud delivered a special message from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to President Prabowo. Prabowo welcomed the message and expressed appreciation for the Emir's attention, reaffirming Indonesia's commitment to further enhancing bilateral ties with Qatar.

The two also discussed issues related to the implementation and follow-up of cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. Earlier, in April 2025, Prabowo and Sheikh Tamim witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic dialogue between Indonesia and Qatar.

The strategic dialogue is intended to promote closer cooperation in a range of key areas, including international and regional political issues, defense and security, counterterrorism, economic affairs—particularly trade and investment—cultural exchanges, and strengthening people-to-people relations.

The Presidential Secretariat said the meeting reflected both countries' commitment to deepen their partnership further. It also said the meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere marked by mutual respect.

"This meeting is part of the ongoing efforts of Indonesia and Qatar to strengthen their strategic partnership, which not only benefits both countries but also contributes to regional stability and prosperity," the secretariat said.
