RRI.CO.ID, Paris - French President Emmanuel Macron lauded Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s stance and consistency in supporting peace efforts in the Middle East, particularly his commitment to the Palestinian cause.

The praise came after a bilateral meeting between the two leaders in Paris, followed by a joint statement at the Élysée Palace on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

“I want to pay tribute to your role, your friendship, and the courageous position you took last year for peace in the Middle East, including your support for the recognition of Palestine,” Macron said.

He also highlighted Indonesia’s broader role in promoting global peace, noting its contributions to stability through peacekeeping missions in Lebanon.

“I want to honor your commitment, Mr. President, your armed forces, and our shared determination to continue working for peace and Lebanon’s sovereignty--especially amid the indiscriminate attacks in southern Lebanon that have caused immense suffering and displacement,” Macron added.

Macron went further, saying President Prabowo has earned a place in the hearts of the French people. “You know that France loves you. The French people showed this to you on July 14 nearly two years ago, and you will always be welcome here,” he said.

President Prabowo, in turn, expressed appreciation for France’s role in supporting peace in Palestine. He praised France as one of Europe’s pioneers in advocating the two-state solution.

“I am very pleased, because France has encouraged many European and Western countries to support the two-state solution for Palestinian independence,” Prabowo said.

Reaffirming Indonesia’s position, Prabowo stressed that peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without justice for the Palestinian people. “Indonesia maintains that peace in the Middle East is impossible without a two-state solution and without justice for the Palestinian people,” he emphasized.
