RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Mexican Ambassador to Indonesia, Francisco de la Torre Galindo, said trade relations between Indonesia and Mexico have great potential to continue growing, in line with the close ties between the two countries in various international forums. According to him, one of the ongoing forms of cooperation between Indonesia and Mexico is the halal certification process for Indonesian food products in Mexico.
“I think that Mexico and Indonesia, we have a wonderful friendship, that we have very alike thinking in the international arena. We're part of groups like MITKA,” Francisco said during an interview with Voice of Indonesia at the RRI VOI Studio in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
“Right now I can tell you that we're having certification for halal food from Indonesia in Mexico,” he added.
Francisco said completing the halal certification process would be an important step toward expanding trade and product exchange between Indonesia and Mexico.
“And we need to finish this process to continue with more things. Right now, the trade exchange between the two countries have a lot of potential,” Francisco said.
In addition to discussing economic relations, Francisco also highlighted the importance of strengthening people-to-people contact through educational cooperation between the two countries. He said the Mexican Embassy had visited Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) in Bandung several weeks ago to explore potential cooperation with National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
“And we think that the cooperation, the programs, and the exchange, the mobility that students, researchers, and professors can have between Mexico and Indonesia is very important for both countries,” he added.
According to Francisco, Indonesia and Mexico share many similarities, including the presence of major universities that have the potential to strengthen collaboration in research and academic development. He believes exchange programs for students, researchers, and lecturers could become a strategic step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in the future.
