RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Humanitarian organization MER-C held a meeting with Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding plans to send humanitarian volunteers to Lebanon amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country. During the meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the MER-C delegation led by MER-C Presidium, Tonggo Meaty Fransisca and Operational Manager, Rima Manzanaris were received by Director for Middle East Affairs at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahrul Tsani Fathurrahman.
Ahrul Tsani conveyed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed MER-C’s plan to send volunteers to Lebanon as part of efforts to strengthen relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Lebanon.
“Thank God, today I was able to meet with our friends from MER-C who conveyed their plan to depart for Lebanon to provide humanitarian assistance through the deployment of volunteers. Of course, we welcome this initiative, and it is indeed part of our efforts to strengthen cooperation with Lebanon,” Ahrul Tsani said in a statement posted on MER-C Indonesia’s X social media account on Monday, May 25, 2026.
He stated that the Lebanese government had previously requested assistance from Indonesia amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict.
According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to facilitate the departure of MER-C volunteers, including assisting communication with authorities and relevant parties in Lebanon.
“Hopefully the travel plan will proceed smoothly. The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut will also provide assistance. Hopefully Indonesians who care about Lebanon can channel their aid through MER-C. At the same time, we should also not forget Gaza and Palestine,” he said.
MER-C’s planned humanitarian mission to Lebanon follows the prolonged conflict in the region, which is considered to have entered an increasingly alarming humanitarian crisis phase. MER-C stated that continuous violations of the ceasefire have further worsened conditions for civilians who urgently need protection and humanitarian assistance.
