RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Nine Indonesian citizens who joined the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian mission are scheduled to arrive home on Sunday afternoon, May 24, 2026. Foreign Minister Sugiono is set to personally welcome the group upon their return.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said the volunteers are expected to land at Soekarno‑Hatta International Airport around 3:30 p.m. Jakarta time. “Their arrival will be greeted directly by Minister Sugiono at Terminal 3’s Umrah Lounge,” she told RRI on Saturday, May 23.
The nine volunteers had earlier arrived safely in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 21. The Indonesian government has since coordinated intensively with multiple parties to ensure their safe return.
Minister Sugiono stressed that Indonesia strongly condemns the mistreatment and inhumane treatment the volunteers endured during their detention. “Military actions by Israel against humanitarian volunteers are a serious violation of international law. Any inhumane treatment of Global Sumud Flotilla volunteers by the Israeli military contravenes international law and undermines universal humanitarian principles,” he said in a statement on May 21.
He reiterated Indonesia’s call for respect for civil rights and the safety of humanitarian workers engaged in peaceful missions in conflict zones. “The government will continue to provide assistance and protection to all Indonesian citizens until the repatriation process is fully completed,” Sugiono affirmed.
