RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The World Mosque Youth President Said Aldi Al Idrus announced that the upcoming International Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, will bring together participants from nine countries and 28 Indonesian provinces between May 23–25, 2026.
Said Aldi emphasized that the event is more than a competition; it is a platform to strengthen Islamic brotherhood and unity among young Muslims worldwide.
“This is not only a contest of Qur’an recitation, but also an international gathering that reinforces the bonds of the global Muslim community,” he said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Friday, May 22, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The enthusiasm is evident, with delegations from across Indonesia and abroad confirming participation. Organizers hope the MTQ will serve as a peaceful and inclusive showcase of Islam, positioning Indonesia as a hub for international Islamic activities.
Support for the event has come from various elements including Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, who welcomed the use of Istiqlal Mosque as the venue of the event.
“As long as the purpose is good, this mosque is the house of God, not ours. It is a great house for humanity,” he previously stated, affirming that Istiqlal is open to activities that promote unity and shared benefit.
The MTQ International is expected to highlight Indonesia’s role in fostering global Islamic dialogue, while also strengthening the spirit of ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic solidarity) among Muslim youth. ***
