RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Golden Visa program--an initiative offering long-term residency of five to 10 years to investors, global talent, and diaspora--is emerging as a gateway for global talent and diaspora communities eager to contribute to the nation’s economy.

The initiative, first introduced in July 2024, was designed to address long-standing immigration hurdles while aligning with Indonesia’s investment and economic growth agenda as well as positioning Indonesia as a competitive regional hub.

Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Hendarsam Marantoko, explained the rationale behind the program during a Golden Visa socialization event in Jakarta on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

“That is why in 2024, we launched the Golden Visa program,” he said, as quoted by Antara, noting that the policy is guided by a selective approach to ensure only qualified applicants are granted long-term residency.

For global talent applicants seeking stays of five to ten years, requirements include meeting academic or professional criteria, holding a valid passport for at least six months, and providing proof of living expenses or a financial guarantee.

“The principle is that Indonesia is welcoming but firm,” Hendarsam emphasized, underscoring the government’s intent to balance openness with security.

One of the notable recipients is international singer Anggun Cipta Sasmi, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “Golden Visa is very important for Indonesian global talent to return home and contribute to the national economy in a real way,” she said.

Living in Paris for three decades, Anggun acknowledged that many diaspora members share the same longing to reconnect with Indonesia.

“No matter how far you go, you always want to come back. With Golden Visa, now it’s possible,” she added, while urging the government to intensify outreach since many diasporas remain unaware of the program.

Anggun also noted that similar schemes have been widely implemented in other countries, making Indonesia’s adoption timely and necessary. “I hope the government continues massive socialization about Golden Visa,” she remarked.

According to official data, as of May 18, 2026, the Directorate General of Immigration has issued 1,274 Golden Visas, generating realized investment worth IDR 52.1 trillion (USD 2.95 billion).

The program has been recognized as a strategic tool to attract talent, investment, and innovation into Indonesia’s economy. ***
