RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - An Indonesian state-run Islamic senior high school MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong (MAN IC Serpong) student, Khairunnisa Athifah, has earned international recognition in computer science after winning a bronze medal at the 2026 European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) held in Italy from May 12 to 18.
Khairunnisa represented Indonesia after passing a series of rigorous national selection stages before traveling to Italy to compete in the event. Her achievement in Cesenatico, Italy, highlights the growing presence of Indonesia youths in global STEM competitions.
In Cesenatico, she competed against dozens of talented young programmers from around the world. Participants were challenged to solve complex algorithmic problems during two technical competition sessions designed to test computational thinking skills.
MAN IC Serpong principal Hilal Najmi expressed gratitude and appreciation for the student’s international achievement.
“We are very proud of Khairunnisa’s achievement in Italy. Winning a world-level bronze medal proves that madrasah students are capable of competing and excelling in advanced technology fields, especially in global computer science and informatics,” Hilal Najmi said on Monday, May 18, 2026, as quoted on the Religious Affairs Ministry's official website.
EGOI is an annual competition established to encourage and increase female participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Khairunnisa’s success adds to the growing list of international achievements earned by the academic community of MAN IC Serpong on the global stage. ***
