Indonesia’s MoFA Confirms WNI Crew from Somalia Hijacking Are in Good Condition

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia stated that all Indonesian crew members aboard the MT Honour 25, who became victims of hijacking in Somalia, are in good health, their logistical needs are being met, and their salaries continue to be paid. This was confirmed by Spokesperson Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela in an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday, May 18, 2026.
“Based on information obtained from various parties, all Indonesian crew members are reported to be in good health, their logistical needs are being met, and their salaries continue to be paid,” Nabyl said.
He also affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives in the region are continuing intensive coordination to follow up on the hijacking case of the MT Honour 25. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation are also engaging with the families of the Indonesian crew to convey that the government is making the best efforts to ensure protection for Indonesians abroad,” he said.
He added that the local government, crew management, and relevant parties are still conducting negotiations with parties in Somalia.
Meanwhile, the Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, Heni Hamidah, also stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transportation, and related parties have carried out family engagement with the crew’s families and reaffirmed that the government will continue to make its best efforts to protect Indonesian citizens abroad.
At present, negotiations between the local government, crew management, and other relevant parties in Somalia are still ongoing. The government hopes the release process can be completed in the near future.
Previously, the MT Honour 25 was reported hijacked on April 22 in waters off Hafun, Somalia. The vessel carried four Indonesian crew members (ABK), 10 Pakistani crew members, and one crew member each from India and Myanmar.
On April 26, the victims’ families urged the Government of Indonesia and President Prabowo Subianto to take immediate action to ensure the safety of the crew members. The four Indonesian crew members originate from South Sulawesi, West Java, and Central Java.
