RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Thai Ambassador to Indonesia, Prapan Disyatat, visited Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. The meeting discussed efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Thailand in various strategic sectors.

Leading the agenda, Chairperson of the House's Commission I, Utut Adianto, said that key issues discussed included economic challenges after the U.S.-Iran war, as well as efforts to increase Thai tourism to Indonesia. He added that the two sides also discussed opportunities for bilateral trade cooperation.

"Essentially, we want to increase trade between Indonesia and Thailand, especially in the use of the baht and rupiah. We will also strive to increase the number of tourists from Thailand," Utut said, as quoted from the House's press release on Tuesday.

Furthermore, Utut assessed that Thailand has excellent processed products, from both the upstream (livestock/raw materials) and downstream (finished products) sectors. Therefore, he encouraged collaboration between Indonesia and Thailand on dairy products specifically for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

Utut also addressed the Myanmar government's complaint of discriminatory treatment from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It was made after the ASEAN summit in Cebu, Philippines, last week, which blacklisted the Myanmar leadership.

"This is certainly not the responsibility of the Indonesian House of Representatives, but rather the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, we will also push for Myanmar's re-entry into ASEAN," he said.

Following the 2021 military coup in Myanmar that deposed democratically elected officials, ASEAN countries arranged the Five-Point Consensus to relieve the crisis. However, failure to implement the agreement resulted in Myanmar being barred from joining ASEAN high-level meetings.
