Indonesia–Singapore Boosts Strategic Partnership Ahead of RISING 60

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono received a working visit from Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in Jakarta on Monday, May 12, 2026. The meeting was part of preparations for the Indonesia–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat 2026 as well as the lead-up to the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027, known as RISING 60.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono, emphasized that Singapore is an important strategic partner for Indonesia. He said the momentum toward RISING 60 should be used to strengthen the partnership so that it becomes more relevant and delivers tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
“And these past six decades, I think Indonesia and Singapore have built a very strong partnership, defined by strategic trust, mutual benefit, and shared purpose,” he said.
The two ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in several priority sectors, including energy transition, renewable energy development, and cross-border electricity interconnection. The initiative is expected to improve energy efficiency while enhancing regional connectivity.
“And energy development and investment that we are hoping to be the largest electricity project, especially sustainable electricity projects,” Sugiono added.
Meanwhile, Singapore Foreign Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, stated that Indonesia is a major energy powerhouse with enormous potential to develop a green economy. “Indonesia has tremendous potential in energy, such as solar, geothermal, and hydropower,” Balakrishnan said.
According to him, what Indonesia needs to focus on in developing its energy potential is how to attract investment and realize cooperative projects that can support the growth of a green economy. He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s energy potential and economic growth could synergize with Singapore’s role as a regional technology and infrastructure financing hub.
