RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Growing trade and investment flows between Indonesia and Russia are setting the stage for deeper industrial cooperation, with both governments determined to transform long-standing diplomatic relations into concrete economic outcomes.
This commitment will be underscored by Indonesia’s role as Partner Country at INNOPROM 2026, a global industrial exhibition in Russia, expected to open new avenues for mutually beneficial collaboration.
The strengthening of ties was highlighted during a bilateral meeting between Indonesian Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza and Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Alexey Vladimirovich Gruzdev at the Indonesia-Russia Business and Investment Forum 2026 in Saint Petersburg.
“Indonesia views Russia as a long-term strategic partner in national industrial development. We want to ensure that all cooperation potentials move beyond commitments and are translated into tangible steps that benefit both countries,” Faisol emphasized.
The meeting followed the April 13, 2026, summit in Moscow between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which reaffirmed both nations’ resolve to expand collaboration across priority sectors.
Indonesia-Russia bilateral relations continue to show positive growth. By October 2025, non-oil and gas trade reached USD 4.04 billion, marking steady progress since 2020. Russian investment in Indonesia has also increased, though officials noted significant room for expansion.
Indonesia stressed the importance of accelerating identified cooperation potentials into measurable and sustainable programs.
Participation in INNOPROM 2026 is seen as a key driver to fast-track implementation, with discussions focusing on strategic sectors such as manufacturing, shipbuilding, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and industrial technology development.
Both sides agreed to expedite the implementation of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I–EAEU FTA), targeted to take effect next year. The agreement is expected to broaden market access and boost trade volumes.
The meeting also addressed the finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Industrial Cooperation, intended as a legal framework to strengthen systematic and sustainable collaboration. Signing of the MoU is planned to coincide with INNOPROM 2026.
Beyond bilateral initiatives, Indonesia and Russia highlighted the role of multilateral platforms such as BRICS, particularly through the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competences (BCIC), as strategic avenues to support industrial transformation and human resource development.
“Indonesia’s participation as Partner Country at INNOPROM 2026 must be fully leveraged to expand investment, strengthen industrial partnerships, and encourage technology transfer that directly enhances national industrial competitiveness,” Faisol concluded. ***
