RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - With both Thailand and Indonesia recognized globally for their wellness tourism industries, the Thai government is looking to transform shared strengths into bilateral cooperation, according to Thai Ambassador Prapan Disyatat in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

In a media interview at the Thai Embassy, Ambassador Prapan said he had met Indonesian Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana to explore opportunities, though discussions have not yet reached the stage of formal cooperation.

“We discussed possible collaboration, but talks remain general. This sector is highly promising, and we need to examine in more detail how we can move forward,” he noted, as quoted by Antara.

Thailand, widely regarded as the world’s leading wellness destination, and Bali, known for its thriving wellness tourism scene, share competitive advantages that Prapan believes should foster collaboration rather than rivalry.

“Both countries have abundant natural resources, especially herbs and spices, which can be developed for wellness treatments. This is a potential area for joint growth,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of supportive infrastructure, including improved connectivity between Thailand and Indonesia --particularly Bali -- as well as visa facilitation to encourage wellness tourism exchanges.

“Ultimately, it depends on governments to ease regulations. If that happens, opportunities will open. Tourism will always find ways to compete while also collaborating,” he explained.

Prapan also highlighted Thailand’s broader wellness industry, which extends beyond medical treatments to beauty care, cosmetic surgery, and anti‑aging programs. He reaffirmed Thailand’s ambition to be seen as a premier destination for wellness tourism, offering trusted, high‑quality services while remaining open to international partnerships.

“If Thailand benefits, the entire region will also share in the gains,” he concluded. ***
