RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is strengthening its cultural and economic footprint in Northern Europe through coffee diplomacy, with the Embassy in Helsinki spotlighting the nation’s diverse coffee heritage at two major events: the Helsinki Coffee Festival from April 17–19 and the Tallinn Coffee Festival from April 25–26.

Ambassador Ibnu Wahyutomo stressed that the initiative is about more than sales. “Indonesian coffee carries a wealth of flavors, origins, and stories. Through these festivals, we want to present coffee not only as a product but also as part of Indonesia’s identity, culture, and economic potential,” he said.

He added that coffee can serve as a bridge linking Indonesia with everyday life in Finland and Estonia, while opening doors to broader economic cooperation.

The embassy’s KOPI Indonesia booth introduced Arabica, Robusta, and Luwak varieties in roasted beans and ground form, highlighting single-origin and specialty profiles.

Finnish visitors gravitated toward bold dark roasts, while Estonian audiences showed greater interest in Arabica, Luwak, and lighter roasts. Enthusiasm was evident in the sale of hundreds of coffee packages across both festivals.

Beyond consumer appeal, participation also unlocked business opportunities. In Finland, discussions included partnerships with major importers, luxury hotels, and renowned roasteries, as well as exploratory plans for Indonesian coffee shops in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. In Estonia, prospects centered on wholesale distribution, local roasting, and packaging for Baltic markets.

Looking ahead, the embassy plans to sustain momentum by joining more exhibitions, building networks with local industry players, and expanding market access for Indonesian coffee across Finland, Estonia, and the wider Baltic region. ***
