RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh recently hosted the Phsaar Reatrei Indonesia (Indonesian Night Market) at Chaktomuk Walk Street, Phnom Penh, from April 25 to 26, 2026. The event serves as a symbol of collaboration and friendship between the two nations, utilizing culinary promotion as a primary tool for cultural diplomacy.
The event was officially opened by the Indonesian Chargé d'Affaires for Cambodia, Krishnajie, alongside Cambodia's Secretary of State for the Ministry of Tourism, Thok Sokhom, and the Director of the Phnom Penh Provincial Department of Tourism, Mom Veasna.
"The Phsaar Reatrei initiative aims to be a symbol of collaboration and friendship between Indonesia and Cambodia, including through efforts to introduce Indonesian culture and culinary delights to the local community," Krishnajie said on Friday, May 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The Phsaar Reatrei has become a vital component of Indonesia’s soft power diplomacy in Cambodia. By showcasing Indonesia's flagship products, the night market aims to enhance the nation's positive image while opening doors for increased trade and investment.
The event featured 12 booths offering a diverse variety of goods to the visiting public. Within the culinary section, guests could sample and purchase authentic Indonesian snacks, traditional food, and beverages. The lifestyle offerings included a selection of Batik clothing and various beauty products, while the health booths showcased Indonesian-made medicines and essential wellness items.
During the opening ceremony, the Indonesian Embassy awarded the Duta Rasa Nusantara (Ambassador of Archipelago Flavor) certificate to two long-standing Indonesian restaurants in Cambodia: Bengawan Solo and Warung Bali. These establishments were recognized for their consistent contribution to serving authentic Indonesian flavors to the Cambodian public.
Beyond shopping and dining, visitors were treated to a diverse lineup of art and traditional music performances, featuring collaborations between musicians from both Indonesia and Cambodia. This cultural exchange is expected to further solidify the tourism and cultural ties that connect the two Southeast Asian neighbors. **
