RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's foundational philosophy Pancasila is being advanced as a guiding principle for global diplomacy, as Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi highlighting its role in fostering cooperation and shared prosperity during an international forum in Tunis.

Speaking at the 40th Tunis International Book Fair, Ambassador Zuhairi underscored that Pancasila embodies the spirit of friendship and cooperation, making it central to Indonesia’s global engagement.

“We believe Pancasila can serve as the basis for building a civilization of diplomacy. Within it lies the spirit of partnership, which becomes the key to shaping Indonesia’s role in the global context,” he said in a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Tunis, received in Jakarta on Friday, May 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The embassy hosted a discussion titled Pancasila: Indonesia’s Philosophy during the fair on Thursday, April 30, joined by senior Tunisian journalists Ziyad Krisyan of al-Maghrib and Fadhil Thayyasyi of al-Syuruq.

Zuhairi emphasized that the friendship between Indonesia and Tunisia reflects Pancasila in practice, offering hope for mutual benefit. He noted that Pancasila - both philosophy and ideology - has long united Indonesia’s diverse communities and propelled the nation’s civilizational progress.

“Pancasila has proven to unify all elements of the nation, across religion, language, and ethnicity. It enables Indonesia to build its civilization,” he said, adding that its essence, as articulated by founding Father Sukarno, is gotong royong (mutual cooperation).

“As long as gotong royong thrives in our national life, Indonesia will continue to have the opportunity to play a significant role in shaping world civilization,” Zuhairi remarked.

Echoing his view, Tunisian journalists Ziyad and Fadhil stressed that Pancasila is not merely spoken of but manifested in concrete action. ***
