RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian immigration authorities have received international recognition after dismantling a cross-border online fraud network involving Japanese nationals, highlighting growing cooperation in tackling transnational crime.
Japan’s National Police Agency (NPA) commended Indonesian Immigration for its role in arresting 13 Japanese suspects linked to telecommunications fraud targeting victims in Japan.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your significant contribution in apprehending suspects who were wanted in your country and responsible for telecom fraud cases in Japan,” NPA Director of Second Organized Crime Division, Kobayashi Masaya, said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday, May 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Responding to the recognition, Indonesian Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, said the acknowledgment reflects the professionalism and dedication of Indonesian officers in handling transnational crime cases.
“This appreciation from the Japan's NPA proves that Indonesian Immigration operates professionally, responsively, and is trusted in tackling cross-border crime. It is the result of collective dedication in the field,” Hendarsam said.
He added that the achievement would motivate the agency to strengthen supervision and improve public service.
“We will continue to safeguard national sovereignty, take firm action against immigration violations, and provide the best service to the public. Immigration for the people is not just a slogan, but a real commitment,” he explained.
The NPA formally issued letters of appreciation to 16 Indonesian immigration officers on April 15, recognizing their contributions to the case. Among those honored were senior officials and field officers involved in the operation, including Yuldi Yusman and Arief Munandar, as well as regional and local immigration leaders.
The arrests took place on March 2, 2026, in the Sentul City residential area in Bogor, West Java, where authorities apprehended 13 Japanese nationals across three houses and seized evidence.
Investigations revealed the group allegedly conducted online fraud schemes targeting victims in Japan while operating from Indonesia using communication technology. The Bogor Immigration Office later deported all the 13 arrested individuals on April 14. ***
