RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured that four Indonesian crew members aboard the MT Honour 25, hijacked off the coast of Somalia, are in good condition as authorities continue to handle the case.
“Based on information from the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi and Somali, the Indonesian crew members on board are safe,” the ministry's Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection, Heni Hamidah, told a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, April 30, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The vessel, hijacked on April 22 near Hafun waters, was manned by four Indonesians, 10 Pakistanis, and one crew member each from India and Myanmar.
Heni explained that the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi is maintaining intensive coordination with Somali authorities, community leaders, and business stakeholders, prioritizing the safety of the crew.
Domestically, the ministry is also strengthening coordination to prevent similar incidents, particularly by improving data collection on Indonesians working as seafarers abroad. “Accurate data is crucial when emergencies occur involving our citizens overseas,” Heni noted.
She added that the government continues to enhance bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation, while urging Indonesian crew members to work through official channels to minimize risks.
The piracy case has drawn concern from families of the victims, who on April 26 appealed to the government and President Prabowo Subianto to take swift action to ensure the crew’s safety. ***
