RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has confirmed the safe return of 13 citizens evacuated from Iran, who arrived back in the country on April 21, 2026, marking the final stage of a three-phase evacuation effort. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
“We have carried out three stages of evacuation, and the last group of 13 Indonesians arrived home on April 21,” the ministry's Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection, Heni Hamidah, said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, April 30, as quoted by Antara.
Heni explained that the evacuation was coordinated between the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesian representatives abroad, airlines, and other stakeholders to ensure safe accommodation and repatriation.
She added that as of April 29, conditions in much of the Middle East -- particularly Gulf states such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates -- remain stable, with no recent reports of missile or drone attacks.
Public activity and most airspace operations have resumed, though airports in Manama, Bahrain, and Baghdad, Iraq, remain closed.
The ministry urged Indonesians in the region to stay vigilant and maintain communication with the nearest Indonesian mission. “In emergency situations, citizens are advised to contact the nearest representative’s hotline or the central protection hotline,” Heni said.
She confirmed that no Indonesians remain stranded as of April 29, with 2,999 citizens having been assisted either through organized evacuation or independent repatriation.
The evacuation comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which triggered regional instability and raised concerns over the safety and mobility of Indonesians living in or traveling through the area.
The successful repatriation underscores Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to protecting its citizens abroad while navigating complex geopolitical challenges. ***
