RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Embassy of Russia in Jakarta has expressed deep condolences over the train accident in Bekasi Timur that killed at least 16 people and injured around 90 others. “In moments like this, we understand how fragile and precious every human life is,” the Russian Embassy said in a statement posted on social media on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The embassy also conveyed its concern, support, and prayers for all those affected by the incident. “We believe that resilience and unity will help overcome the impact of this disaster,” the statement said.

The Russian Embassy further extended its condolences to the families of the victims. “We express our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and share in their irreplaceable grief and loss,” it said.

The accident occurred on Monday night, April 27, 2026, in the Bekasi Timur area, beginning when an online taxi experienced a malfunction and stopped at a level crossing on Jalan Ampera. The vehicle obstructed a commuter line (KRL) train operating on the Kampung Bandan–Cikarang route, forcing it to stop on the track.

Shortly afterward, the stationary KRL was struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the Jakarta Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route, resulting in a strong collision and severe damage to the train cars. Police are currently investigating the incident, including possible human error and potential disruptions in the railway communication system believed to have contributed to the crash.

The Ministry of Transportation has expressed full support for the investigation being carried out by the Komisi Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi (KNKT) to determine the exact cause of the accident in an objective and comprehensive manner.

The government has assured that all victims will receive the best possible treatment and their rights in accordance with applicable regulations, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the national transportation safety system. Data collection on the number of victims is still ongoing. To support handling efforts, adjustments have been made to commuter train operations, which are currently running only up to Bekasi Station.
