RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Russian Embassy in Jakarta has extended its condolences following the tragic train accident in East Bekasi that claimed at least 16 lives and injured 90 others.
“In moments as tragic as this, we are reminded of how fragile and precious every life is,” the embassy wrote in a social media post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
It conveyed sympathy, support, and prayers for all those affected. “We believe resilience and unity will help overcome the impact of this disaster. We express our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and share in their irreplaceable loss,” the Russian Embassy added.
The accident occurred on Monday night, April 27, when an online taxi stalled at a level crossing on Jalan Ampera, obstructing the path of a commuter train traveling the Kampung Bandan–Cikarang route.
The train was forced to stop, but moments later was struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek express, operating between Jakarta Gambir and Surabaya Pasar Turi. The collision caused severe damage to the train cars.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, examining possible human error and communication system failures within the railway network.
The embassy’s statement underscores the international resonance of the tragedy, as condolences pour in while Indonesian authorities continue efforts to determine the cause and prevent similar accidents in the future. ***
