RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - An Indonesian sea contingent departed for Türkiye on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, to join the international humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2026. The group consists of five participants and one media representative, marking Indonesia’s civil society contribution to global humanitarian efforts.

As quoted by Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) press release, the flotilla journey began in Barcelona on April 29, 2026 as the initial departure point of the international convoy. "The fleet later joined vessels from Italy on April 26 and is now heading toward Greece and Türkiye for final consolidation before approaching Gaza waters," the press release stated.

Beyond the maritime convoy, the initiative includes global advocacy efforts to increase political pressure. On April 22, 2026, a Parliamentary Congress in Brussels gathered lawmakers, activists, and civil society representatives to push for an end to the Gaza blockade and ensure civilian protection.

Indonesia was represented at the forum by figures from religious, academic, and legal backgrounds. These included Prof. Sudarnoto, Prof. Heru Susetyo, Wanda Hamidah, Gustika Hatta, Arif, and Feri Amsari.

A parallel land convoy will also support the mission, departing from Mauritania and assembling in Libya on May 7 before moving toward Gaza. Indonesian participants from GPCI are scheduled to leave for Libya on May 5, joining over 1,000 participants from dozens of countries.

As part of the broader campaign, activists are attempting to intercept the cargo ship MSC Maya en route to Ashdod, Israel. The move is intended to apply civilian pressure on logistical routes linked to the blockade and military operations in Gaza.

Indonesia’s participation reflects a continued commitment to humanitarian values and global justice. It also aligns with the constitutional mandate to oppose all forms of colonialism.

Besides, the Indonesian contingent is expected to join other international participants in Türkiye in the coming days. They will then proceed to the next phase of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 mission.

The GSF is a global solidarity initiative involving more than 80 civilian vessels aiming to break the blockade of Gaza and open humanitarian corridors for Palestinians. The mission also serves as a symbolic act of global civil resistance and a call for stronger international action.
