RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — The Indonesian House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP DPR RI) stressed that parliamentary diplomacy must not stop at international forums, but should be brought back to the public. Deputy Chairperson of the agency, Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, made the statement during the delegation’s visit to the Southeast Asian Studies Master’s Program at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia, Depok, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

The visit was held a day after BKSAP attended the 5th Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA) Coordinating Committee Meeting in Quezon City, the Philippines. BKSAP used the visit to share the outcomes of the WAIPA meeting directly with academics and students.

Irine said the activity was not merely ceremonial, but part of BKSAP’s strategic role as a bridge between regional diplomacy and national interests. “Our presence here today is part of BKSAP DPR RI’s commitment to strengthening the bridge between parliament and society, particularly academics and students as Indonesia’s future leaders,” Irine said, as quoted by official statement.

She explained that BKSAP, as a parliamentary supporting body, has a mandate to conduct parliamentary diplomacy, build international networks, and safeguard Indonesia’s national interests. In the context of WAIPA, Irine said Indonesia did not merely attend as a participant, but played an active role in shaping regional policy on women’s political participation and leadership.

“For DPR RI, AIPA is not merely a multilateral forum, but a key instrument of parliamentary diplomacy carried out substantively by BKSAP,” she said.

Indonesia also played an important role in the formulation of the Women’s Political Participation and Leadership (WPPL) Plan of Action 2024–2030, which serves as WAIPA’s work guideline until 2030. Irine noted that Indonesia was the main sponsor of the 2023 AIPA Resolution on women’s leadership and gender-responsive parliaments, and hosted the first WAIPA Workshop in October 2023.

She added that the visit to FIB UI was part of a complete parliamentary diplomacy cycle, ensuring that regional forum outcomes are understood by national stakeholders. Irine affirmed that parliamentary diplomacy through AIPA and WAIPA must ultimately contribute to DPR RI’s legislative, oversight, and budgetary functions at home.
