RRI.CO.ID, Seoul – The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has officially established a sister city partnership with the Special Self-Governing Province of Jeju, South Korea. The agreement was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Jeju Governor Oh Young-hun at the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Seoul on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

The signing, witnessed by Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea, Cecep Herawan, covers various strategic sectors, ranging from tourism and renewable energy to the economy, agriculture, and fisheries.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the collaboration marks an important step in strengthening Jakarta’s position on the global stage. “Jeju is a strategic partner, particularly in the development of tourism and sustainable energy. We want this cooperation to deliver tangible benefits for people in both regions,” Pramono said in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

Pramono expressed optimism that the collaboration with Jeju will accelerate Jakarta’s vision to be included among the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030. “We are committed to creating a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable future for Jakarta and Jeju,” he said.

In addition to Jeju, Jakarta has also established sister city partnerships with several global cities. Jakarta and Tokyo have maintained cooperation since the signing of an MoU in 1989, focusing on exchanges in urban management, technology, and culture, as well as strengthening bilateral friendship.

A similar partnership has also been in place between Jakarta and Berlin for more than 30 years, since the signing of an MoU on April 13, 1994. This collaboration includes exchanges in innovation, technology, and transportation, as well as strengthening the digital ecosystem and entrepreneurship, including through initiatives such as the Smart Change project and the development of the Future City Hub.

Meanwhile, Jakarta and Hong Kong have also established a sister city cooperation to strengthen ties and promote exchanges in culture, economy, and technology.
