RRI.CO.ID, Beirut – The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) held a memorial ceremony for an Indonesian peacekeeper, Second Corporal Rico Pramudia, who died after sustaining critical injuries from a projectile explosion at his base last month. In an official statement released on Sunday, 26 April 2026, UNIFIL said the ceremony, held at Beirut Airport, was led by Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Diodato Abagnara, who paid tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of the fallen soldier in carrying out his peacekeeping duties in southern Lebanon.

In his remarks, Abagnara said the late soldier had come far from home to serve under the United Nations flag and gave everything for peace. “We will carry forward the mission you have undertaken, remain steadfast, united, and vigilant. This is how we honor you,” Abagnara said.

Second Corporal Rico Pramudia, 31, was the fourth Indonesian peacekeeper who died in the line of duty in southern Lebanon in less than a month. He is survived by his wife and a young son.

His deployment with UNIFIL, which began in April last year, was his first overseas mission. The ceremony was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon, Dicky Komar, a representative of the Lebanese Ministry of National Defence and the Lebanese Armed Forces Brigadier General Maroun Azzi, as well as Colonel Allan Surya Lesmana from the Indonesian contingent in UNIFIL.

UNIFIL emphasized that attacks on peacekeepers constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, and may amount to war crimes. Therefore, each incident must be promptly investigated, and those responsible must be prosecuted and held accountable.
