RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in San Francisco is leveraging the influence of culinary icon Chef Martin Yan to elevate the profile of Indonesian cuisine across the United States.

Indonesian Consul General in San Francisco, Yohpy Wardana, initiated discussions for a collaboration during a strategic meeting at the 2026 Asia Game Changer West Awards Gala hosted by the Asia Society Northern California. This initiative is aimed at bringing the diverse flavors of the archipelago to the forefront of the American food scene.

"Indonesia possesses an incredibly rich culinary heritage, born from the history of the spice trade and the cultural diversity of over 17,000 islands," remarked Yohpy, as quoted by Antara.

He expressed confidence that the partnership would serve as a powerful catalyst for cultural diplomacy. "Collaboration with Chef Martin Yan will certainly further strengthen efforts to promote the richness of Nusantara’s flavors to the people of the United States."

The diplomatic mission is optimistic that these preliminary talks will evolve into concrete projects, specifically targeting the Bay Area public with iconic dishes such as rendang (slow-cooked dry curry beef), nasi goreng (rice fried), satay, and soto (traditional Indonesian soup).

Chef Martin Yan, a legendary figure who has introduced Asian cuisine to American households via PBS for decades, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative and his willingness to help champion Indonesian flavors in the US market.

Known for his engaging and educational cooking style, the Hong Kong-American chef is no stranger to the region’s gastronomy. He has previously collaborated with Indonesian celebrity chef Marinka for the program Martin Yan's Asian Favorites and participated in the Culinary Masterpieces event in Jakarta.
