RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta -Books are serving as a powerful bridge in deepening relations between Indonesia and Tunisia, as Indonesia takes part as the guest of honor at the 40th Tunis International Book Fair in Elkram.

Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi emphasized the role of literature in diplomacy during the opening ceremony on Thursday, April 23, 2026, which was inaugurated by Tunisian President Kais Saied.

“When speaking with Tunisian President, we received appreciation and warm support," Ambassador Misrawi said in a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Tunis on Friday, April 24, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

"Likewise, Tunisian citizens expressed enthusiasm in learning more about Indonesian culture and the thoughts of our scholars,” he added.

He highlighted the long-standing bilateral ties between the two countries, dating back to before Tunisia’s independence in 1960, a history reflected in the Indonesian pavilion.

With the theme Indonesia Tunisia Sahabat (Indonesia-Tunisia Friendship), the pavilion showcases works that symbolize the intellectual and cultural connections between the nations.

These include writings by Tunisian scholars such as Ibn Khaldun, Muhammad Thahir bin ‘Asyur, and Abdul Aziz al-Tha’alabi, alongside Indonesian historical and philosophical works in Arabic, English, and French, as well as contributions from Nusantara scholars.

Ambassador Misrawi noted that Indonesia’s role as guest of honor has been warmly welcomed by both the Tunisian government and the public.

Beyond books, the pavilion also features daily cultural programs, including discussions, traditional dance and music performances, and Indonesian culinary presentations.

By placing literature and culture at the forefront, Indonesia is reinforcing its image as a nation of progress and shared civilization, using soft power to strengthen ties with Tunisia and promote values of equality and knowledge across borders. ***
