RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and the European Union (EU) enhances their partnership to accelerate green, innovation-driven development. The commitment was reaffirmed at the RI–EU Science and Technology Collaboration Forum 2026 at Jakarta on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 coinciding with Earth Day.

Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, said the partnership strengthens research, innovation, and human capital. He emphasized universities must lead in producing talent and advancing green technology for sustainable industrial transformation.

Through the collaboration, he also hoped that this will be a bridge to achieve solutions in energy that can impact Indonesia and globally. "We want the collaboration between Indonesia and the European Union to become even stronger, in the form of collaboration that can be achieved by both nations,” he stated, quoted from the official press release.

EU Ambassador to Indonesia, Denis Chaibi, highlighted Indonesia’s role as a key partner in advancing green innovation, linking joint initiatives to the EU’s Global Gateway strategy. He pointed to support for Indonesia’s “1,000 Green Engineers” initiative as an investment in the country’s young talent and a long-term commitment to sustainable technological development.

The forum, themed “Green Technology for Sustainable Climate Solutions” gathered policymakers, researchers, and academics to boost collaboration in green technology and innovation. Both sides stressed equal, solution-oriented cooperation to deliver measurable environmental and societal impact.

As part of the forum, participants were introduced to the EU Green Engineering Hub, a platform offering access to scholarships, academic programs, and career opportunities in green engineering across Europe. The initiative aims to strengthen human capital development and encourage Indonesian researchers and students to engage in climate-focused innovation.

In addition, the forum also promoted wider participation in Horizon Europe, opening doors for Indonesian scientists to collaborate on global research in climate, energy, food systems, natural resources, and the environment. Experts from both regions showcased innovations, including waste-to-energy solutions and technology-driven disaster mitigation systems.

The event gathered a broad coalition of stakeholders, including government agencies, universities, research institutions, and civil society groups. Moving forward, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expanding international partnerships, boosting research commercialization, and ensuring that innovation contributes directly to sustainable economic growth and environmental resilience.
