RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Muhammad Husein Fadlulloh, emphasized that collaboration between the United Nations and parliaments must address global humanitarian concerns -- particularly the situation in Palestine, with the aim of ending the conflict in Gaza.
“Indonesia will not stop pressing the UN to support a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza,” said the Gerindra politician in a press statement in Jakarta, Monday, April 20, 2026.
Husein also underlined Indonesia’s commitment to actively push for UN reform, with the goal of making the institution more inclusive and democratic. “Indonesia is committed to being an active partner in reforming the UN into a body that is more inclusive, democratic, and respectful of the central role of national parliaments in safeguarding peace and prosperity worldwide,” he added.
Earlier, BKSAP participated in the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly held in Istanbul from April 15–19, 2026. The forum, attended by representatives from around 150 countries, saw Indonesia’s delegation express deep concern over the worsening situation in the Middle East amid escalating conflict.
Indonesia’s parliamentary diplomacy at the IPU is part of broader efforts to advocate for global peace while voicing national interests on the international stage. The assembly also served as a strategic platform to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation in addressing global challenges, ranging from armed conflicts and humanitarian crises to sustainable development issues.
BKSAP Chair Syahrul Aidi Maazat reaffirmed Indonesia’s firm stance in condemning Israel’s military actions, particularly in the Middle East. He warned that such actions not only exacerbate regional conflict but also threaten global stability.
“Before representatives of 150 countries, we conveyed Indonesia’s position on Israel’s actions in the Middle East. One of the most pressing issues we highlighted was the shooting of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL,” said the PKS politician in a statement on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
He stressed that attacks on peacekeeping forces constitute a serious violation of international law and humanitarian principles. “This incident must be treated as a collective concern and cannot be left without a firm international response,” he said.
“Israel has disrupted geopolitical and economic order, undermining global peace. We urge all nations to unite and pressure Israel to prevent the conflict from escalating further,” Syahrul concluded. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
