RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has strengthened its standing in international aviation education after the Ministry of Transportation received three prestigious awards in the field of aviation training at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2026 in Marrakech, Morocco.
The honors include Platinum Member ICAO Trainair Plus, Most Implemented STP Across the Network through the Ramp Safety Awareness program, and Highest Number of ICAO Training Packages Developed.
The awards were presented by ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, accompanied by Deputy Director Miguel Marin, to Head of the Transportation Ministry's Human Resources Development Center for Air Transportation (PPSDMPU), M. Abrar Tuntalanai.
According to Abrar, the achievement underscores Indonesia’s role as a leading contributor in global aviation training, particularly within the Trainair Plus framework.
“This international recognition directly enhances the quality of graduates from the Ministry’s aviation colleges, ensuring they are trained to global ICAO standards and exposed to packages widely used across the industry,” he said.
The integration of ICAO-standard training has made aviation education more practical, industry-aligned, and focused on strengthening technical competence and safety awareness from the outset.
As a result, graduates are not only job-ready at the national level but also benchmarked against international standards, making them more competitive in the global aviation market.
Abrar emphasized that this success reflects Indonesia’s sustained commitment since 2022 to advancing aviation human resources.
Beyond receiving awards, Indonesia played a strategic role at ICAO GISS 2026 -- serving on the Steering Committee, actively participating in Trainair Plus workshops, and engaging in side meetings with member states to explore new collaborations.
This active involvement reinforces Indonesia’s position as a Training Center of Excellence and strengthens its diplomatic momentum ahead of its candidacy for the ICAO Council member in the 2028 term. ***
