RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi, Pakistan, has ensured the safe repatriation of three Indonesian crew members affected by the MV Gold Autumn incident in the Arabian Sea earlier this month.

The Consulate’s swift response underscored its commitment to protecting citizens abroad and safeguarding their rights.

Since April 10, the Consulate General had provided intensive assistance to the three seafarers, facilitating replacement passports, loss certificates, and other essential documents needed for their return. Basic needs were also met during their stay in Karachi.

To expedite the process, the Consulate coordinated closely with relevant authorities in Pakistan and Indonesia, including the ship’s agent, ensuring that administrative requirements and crew rights were fulfilled.

After a week of waiting for documentation involving other foreign crew, the three Indonesians were scheduled to depart Karachi on Saturday, April 18, and expected to arrive home on Sunday, April 19.

The Consulate General continues to work with the Indonesian Directorate for the Protection of Citizens and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to monitor the repatriation until the crew safely reaches home, while also ensuring follow-up on their rights.

The three Indonesians expressed gratitude for the hospitality of Pakistani authorities and the Consulate’s prompt support.

The Consulate further reminded Indonesian nationals, particularly those working in maritime sectors, to always keep digital copies of personal documents, maintain important contact numbers, and reach out to the nearest Indonesian mission in case of emergencies.

The MV Gold Autumn, a Panama-flagged bulk carrier, was struck by disaster in the Arabian Sea on April 10, 2026, when fire and explosions -- possibly triggered by missile attacks -- forced the crew to abandon ship.

The Pakistan Navy responded immediately, rescuing all 18 crew members of multiple nationalities, including Indonesians, and bringing them safely to Karachi. The incident underscored both the dangers of operating in conflict-prone waters and the importance of rapid international maritime rescue coordination. ***
