RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia used a major global parliamentary forum to call for international pressure on Israel, warning that escalating military actions in the Middle East risk wider global instability.

At the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Turkiye, Indonesia’s Parliament voiced strong criticism of Israel’s military actions in the Middle East, warning that the escalating violence risks destabilizing global peace.

The session, held April 15–19, 2026, was attended by representatives from 150 countries. Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP), Syahrul Aidi, conveyed Indonesia’s stance during the forum.

He highlighted Israel’s recent strike in southern Lebanon that killed three Indonesian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

“This attack crossed the line by targeting peacekeeping forces,” Syahrul said in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Beyond Lebanon, Indonesia’s Parliament also condemned Israel’s ongoing military operations in Palestine, including airstrikes on Gaza and policies arming civilians while legalizing violence against Palestinians.

Syahrul described Israel’s actions as destructive to global stability, urging nations to unite in pressuring Israel to prevent the outbreak of a wider conflict.

“This is not only a violation of human rights but also a threat to geopolitical and economic order. We call on all countries to act collectively so that the world does not edge toward a third world war,” he emphasized. ***
