RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) met with the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Jakarta on Thursday evening, April 16, 2026, to strengthen ties and discuss the latest geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
The meeting was led by MUI Chairman KH M. Anwar Iskandar and Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia Faisal Abdullah Al Amoudi.
Ambassador Faisal underscored that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to exercise restraint amid ongoing conflicts in the region.
“We want to emphasize that Saudi Arabia always prioritizes restraint and seeks to prevent the region from escalating into a wider battlefield,” Faisal said at his residence in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.
He stressed that Saudi Arabia would not allow its land, waters, or airspace to be used for attacks against Iran.
According to Faisal, Saudi Arabia has pursued diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, but Iran has carried out strikes against Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia. He reiterated that the Kingdom is not part of the war and warned of the conflict’s dangerous impact on global stability.
“The consequences are already visible in rising ticket prices, fuel costs, energy prices, and higher supply chain expenses,” he said.
MUI Chairman Anwar Iskandar emphasized that the council’s principle regarding Middle East geopolitics is to call for an end to war by all parties. “War brings no benefit in economics, politics, or any other field. Our principle is to stop the fighting,” he said, as quoted on the MUI's official website.
The dialogue between MUI and the Saudi Embassy highlighted shared concerns over regional security and energy stability, while reinforcing Indonesia’s engagement with Middle East diplomacy. ***
