RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is placing energy diplomacy at the center of its foreign policy, with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding national energy supply during President Prabowo Subianto’s working visit to Moscow, Russia.
Speaking on Monday, April 13, 2026, Minister Bahlil said the talks with Russia were focused on concrete cooperation aligned with Indonesia’s national interests. “This visit is an important momentum to ensure national energy supply remains secure and to strengthen energy resilience,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
The cooperation agenda includes securing oil supplies, boosting investment in energy infrastructure, expanding oil refinery development, strengthening oil trade, and advancing energy technology. In the longer term, Indonesia is also opening opportunities for collaboration in clean energy as part of its diversification strategy.
During his bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that energy cooperation is vital for maintaining economic stability amid global geopolitical shifts.
“We feel it is very important to consult on how to face the future, and especially to deepen cooperation in economy and energy,” he said.
President Putin welcomed the initiative, noting that Russia sees strategic opportunities in energy collaboration with Indonesia. He highlighted Indonesia’s recent entry into BRICS as a new platform for expanding bilateral cooperation.
“Our countries are working closely and interacting well in international forums. Indonesia’s BRICS membership opens new opportunities for us to strengthen cooperation,” President Putin remarked.
The Indonesian government expressed hopes the partnership will reinforce national energy resilience while supporting economic stability in the face of global uncertainty. ***
