RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy took center stage in Turkey as leading orchestral and choral groups delivered standout performances at a major European-linked music festival, drawing international audiences and diplomats.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara supported the participation of Jakarta Concert Orchestra and Batavia Madrigal Singers at the 40th Ankara International Music Festival held on April 11-12, 2026.

Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Achmad Rizal Purnama said the presence of Indonesian musicians under maestro Avip Priatna on the international stage reflects a creative, open, and artistically rich national image.

“Indonesian culture is presented with a modern and refined touch,” he said in a statement on Monday, April 13, as quoted by Antara.

According to the ambassador, music serves as a powerful medium to unite people and strengthen ties between nations, including Indonesia and Turkey. He highlighted the performance of “Indonesia Pusaka” as one of the most emotional moments of the show.

The embassy also expressed appreciation for the warm reception from Turkish audiences.

On April 11, the orchestra and choir performed Indonesian works showcasing the country’s diversity, including Sepasang Mata Bola by Ismail Marzuki, Tanah Air by Saridjah Niung, as well as regional songs such as Bubuy Bulan from West Java and Sik-Sik Batu Manikam from North Sumatra.

The following day, they returned with a mix of Indonesian and international repertoire, including Somewhere Over The Rainbow popularized by Judy Garland, and Bahasa Kalbu composed by Titi DJ, Andi Rianto, and Dorie Kalmas.

The performances were supported by soloists including James Napoleon Lai, Giovani Biga, Metta F. Ariono, Marini Widyastari, and Nino Ario Wijaya.

Across two days, the performances drew around 1,500 attendees, including members of the Indonesian diaspora, particularly students in Turkey.

Diplomats from several countries, including China, Moldova, Cambodia, and the Philippines, as well as representatives from Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and companies, were also in attendance.

Organized by the Sevda-Cenap and Music Foundation and fully supported by the Turkish government, the festival has been part of the European Festival Association since 1993. ***
