RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration has taken action against 346 foreign nationals during “Operation Wira Waspada", a nationwide enforcement effort conducted from April 7–11, 2026.
The operation, part of the Indonesian Ministry of Immigration and Corrections’ annual program, is designed to uphold immigration law and reinforce the country’s “selective policy” on foreign entry and residency.
Of those apprehended, the largest group came from China with 183 individuals, followed by Pakistan (21), Nigeria (20), and Japan (13).
Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, said the most common violation was misuse of residence permits, accounting for 214 cases -- around 61 percent of the total.
Other infractions included overstays (24 cases), fictitious investors (17 cases), and administrative violations such as failure to present travel documents or providing false addresses.
“Only foreigners who provide benefits to the country and do not threaten public security or order have the right to stay in Indonesia. We must ensure residence permits are obtained and used properly,” Hendarsam explained in Jakarta on Monday, April 13, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Operation Wira Waspada 2026 involved 2,449 activities across 151 immigration offices nationwide, examining foreign nationals from 36 countries. Those found in violation are now undergoing investigation and will face further legal proceedings under Indonesian immigration law.
Hendarsam emphasized that immigration enforcement is not only about legal compliance but also about safeguarding national security and ensuring fairness. “We are committed to improving the quality of immigration law enforcement and addressing all violations to maintain public order,” he said.
The latest operation follows a similar effort in December 2025, when 220 foreign nationals were apprehended, with the majority of violations involving Chinese citizens (114), Nigerians (16), and Indians (14). ***
