RRI.CO.ID, Petaling Jaya - The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sunway University Malaysia. This agreement is a strategic step in expanding networks and strengthening the national creative economy ecosystem at the global level.
According to a press release received by RRI VOI from the Ministry of Creative Economy on Thursday, 9 April 2026, the MoU signing, which took place at Sunway University Malaysia in Petaling Jaya, also involved several partners, including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Sony Malaysia, Euroasia Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO), and the creative ecosystems in the Sunway Square and Sunway Lagoon areas. This collaboration integrates government, academia, the business world, and the community within a single collaborative ecosystem.
Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, affirmed that this partnership is part of the government's commitment to boosting the competitiveness of Indonesian creative talent internationally.
"In accordance with President Prabowo's directive to emphasize Indonesia's position as an economic hub in Southeast Asia, this partnership is designed to open access for Indonesian talent to study and collaborate internationally," he said.
As a follow-up, the Ministry of Creative Economy is developing a collaborative program with Sunway University through the Riau Creative Acceleration (AKTIF) initiative. This program is expected to open opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the music subsector, strengthen connections between education and industry, and increase exposure for Indonesian and Malaysian musicians.
The Secretary of the Ministry/Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Dessy Ruhati, emphasized that the implementation of this collaboration is directed at concrete programs that directly impact creative talent.
Through this agreement, both parties agree to develop various joint initiatives, ranging from knowledge exchange, human resource capacity building, collaborative work production, to the creation of industry opportunities based on real-world practices. This step also aligns with the Ministry's priority of encouraging the acceleration of the music subsector integrated with other subsectors.
This collaboration is expected to be a catalyst in opening broader access for young Indonesian creatives to penetrate the global market, while strengthening cultural diplomacy through a creative industry approach. The Ministry of Creative Economy is optimistic that this partnership will also have a sustainable impact on national economic growth.
