RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Beirut and several other areas in Lebanon that have caused civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. In a statement cited from its official X account @Kemlu_RI on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the attacks constitute serious violations of international law, including international humanitarian law.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the various Israeli attacks on Beirut and other areas in Lebanon that have resulted in significant civilian casualties and physical destruction,” the ministry said.

The Indonesian government emphasized that the attacks risk worsening regional tensions and threatening global security. “These attacks constitute serious violations of international law, including international humanitarian law, and risk further exacerbating regional tensions that endanger global security,” it added.

Indonesia demanded that Israel immediately cease all forms of violence and aggression in Lebanon on a permanent basis. It also stressed the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with international legal obligations.

“Indonesia also underscores the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, in accordance with international law,” the statement said.

Indonesia further called on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, pursue de-escalation, prioritize dialogue, and avoid actions that could further aggravate the situation.

“Indonesia calls on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, undertake de-escalation efforts, prioritize dialogue, and avoid steps that could worsen the situation,” the ministry stated.

The conflict between Israel and Lebanon has escalated since March 2, 2026, when Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel and declared its involvement in the conflict on Iran’s side, following airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. The escalation intensified after Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was reported killed on the first day of the war, prompting large-scale retaliatory strikes by Israel.

Since then, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have reportedly killed more than 1,400 people and displaced over one million residents.

The latest attack in Beirut was also claimed to have killed Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem. However, there has been no official confirmation from Hezbollah regarding the claim.
