RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — Indonesian Foreign Minister, Sugiono, said the Indonesian government, through its Permanent Mission in New York, has requested the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to convene an emergency meeting following the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Lebanon. He also said that, in addition to the three fatalities, three other personnel were injured in the incident.

“In response to this incident, the Indonesian government, through its Permanent Mission in New York, has requested the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency meeting,” Sugiono said on Saturday, April 4, 2026 in Tangerang.

He affirmed that during the meeting, Indonesia strongly condemns all attacks against peacekeepers, particularly UNIFIL, and calls for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation with full accountability.

Indonesia also continues to urge the United Nations Security Council to take firm action in investigating all incidents involving UNIFIL, and to push for an immediate meeting of troop-contributing countries to take concrete steps in strengthening the protection of personnel on the ground.

In addition, Indonesia encourages the United Nations (UN) to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the safety aspects of peacekeeping personnel across various mission areas.

According to him, such an evaluation is essential to ensure maximum protection for peacekeepers, especially those deployed in high-risk areas such as Lebanon.
