RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia has called on the United Nations (UN) to immediately convene a meeting with troop-contributing countries of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This urgent request follows an incident on Friday, April 3, 2026, in El Addaiseh, Southern Lebanon, which left three Indonesian peacekeepers injured.

"Indonesia reiterates its demand for the UN Security Council to immediately investigate all incidents involving UNIFIL. We call for an urgent meeting among troop-contributing countries to conduct a comprehensive review," said Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson, Yvonne Mewengkang, in a written statement on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

"Decisive action must be taken to strengthen the protection of personnel serving within UNIFIL," she added.

Specifically, Yvonne emphasized that Indonesia is calling for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to uncover the facts behind the attacks.

"This incident occurred amidst ongoing Israeli strikes and military operations in Southern Lebanon. Such actions, coupled with rhetoric regarding maintaining a military presence, risk destabilizing the region and continue to jeopardize the lives of UN peacekeeping personnel," she remarked.

Yvonne further stressed that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers are non-negotiable. "Any act that endangers them constitutes a serious violation of international law and must not be allowed to pass without accountability."

Friday's explosion marks the third serious incident involving Indonesian peacekeepers in UNIFIL within the past week.

"These events underscore the vital importance of immediately reinforcing protections for UN peacekeepers amidst an increasingly hazardous conflict environment," said Yvonne.

Previously, on Sunday, March 29, 2026, a member of the Garuda UNIFIL contingent was killed in action in Southern Lebanon. Corporal Farizal Rhomadhon lost his life when indirect artillery fire struck the Indonesian position near Adchit Al Qusayr.

That incident, which took place during an exchange of artillery fire between Israel and Hezbollah, also injured three other Garuda peacekeepers. Private First Class Rico Pramudia sustained severe injuries, while Private First Class Bayu Prakoso, and Private First Class Arif Kurniawan suffered minor injuries.

The casualties continued on Monday, March 30, 2026, when two additional Garuda personnel were killed near Bani Haiyyan, Southern Lebanon, in an attack that also wounded two other Indonesian peacekeepers. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
